discuss Do people prefer strength to truth?

This thread covers all aspects of ideologies, including beliefs, principles, traditions, policies, and their influence on society and culture.
It can depend on the individual and the situation, but often, people may pit more focus on strength, whether it's physical, emotional, or authoritative, over truth, especially when it provides a sense of control or security. Strength can be comforting, as it offers protection and stability. However, truth is essential for long-term growth, authenticity, and meaningful connections.

I got two female relatives who were grade schoolteachers. They tend to treat even adults in a "talking down to" manner.

Causation may not equal correlation in these situations. Just because they talk down in their instruction to kids may not be why they talk down to adults. I see many people with degrees, which is required to teach, talk down to those with skills.

Could it be that since they are "educated", they are talking down to the other adults in the room?

They're definitely "wiser than thou" smarty-pants

Truth is no longer a value. You can be truthful to high heavens but people that are stronger than you financially would always be preferred. The moral value of the world has been depleted almost beyond repairs.

I think some people prefer strength to truth, valuing confidence or dominance, like a bold leader at a work meeting, over honesty, which can feel vulnerable. Yet, I find truth, like admitting mistakes over coffee, builds deeper trust and lasting respect.
Some value dominance, but honest vulnerability fosters deeper trust, respect, and genuine human connection.
