fitness Do you do Yoga or go gym fulltime?

This general fitness thread covers all aspects of fitness, including workouts, nutrition, wellness tips, lifestyle changes, and fitness advice.
I am not a yoga person. I once did yoga for almost four dedicated months and ended up gaining weight tremendously. Of course, this was because I was getting too hungry post the yoga sessions and I used to end up overeating. However, this somehow discouraged me to practice yoga altogether. I prefer gym, as I can do both the cardio plus resistance exercises. As for relaxing my mind, I think sleep helps me rejuvenate enough:LOL:

I don't like yoga, so I'll prefer the gym. The problem is that even the gym is not that regular for me, because of other engagements.
In any case, yoga is probably the last thing I'll consider.

There are a lot of people who like yoga, but I am really keen to understand the reason you have such a dislike for yoga. Is there a reason for such?

I share the concern and it's true that Yoga makes you eat a lot of food. That probably returns you back to square one because the calories you thought you had burnt would be replenished by the food consumption. 🤣 I just love the fact that it keeps me fit. I'm not willing to shed any weight.🤣

Yoga is a good option if l want to be in a good energy. I do not like to go to gym.

That's very good. I want some people to understand that it is not everyone who would like to visit the gym. The gym is all about lifting weights and dumbbells, whereas doing yoga offers you much more in terms of mind concentration.

I used to have a gym membership long ago.

I lived about 20 miles from the gym. I'd take my road bike (bicycle) and ride it from the house to the gym, work out for about an hour and then ride back. I'd get 40 miles on the bike and an hour at the gym. I was in the best shape ever back then, but I also had more time to do those things.

Now, the closest gym is in another state and they're doing construction on the bridges, and I just want to avoid it. I still do try to bike and hike more often though.

But back when I did the gym, I was in my 20s. Now I'm in my 40s and I'm slowing down and aching more lately.

I lived in the gym from about 2015 to right when the Pandemic hit, so about 5 years. My goal was to get a Pro card, but that was out of the question once I saw a deformity in my leg. It still didn't stop me from getting bigger and stronger, though, as I put so much into it already. The Pandemic is what stopped me, as gyms closed down, and I took months off, withering away.

I now have no excuses. Gyms are open, and I can go weekly, or do my home workout. In fact, I just finished my back and biceps tonight, but would've loved to incorporate deadlifts again, which I can only get to the weight I need at the gym.

I feel you there. I used to get shoulder impingement from frontal shoulder to rear shoulder strength imbalance once every other year to the point where I couldn't put on my seatbelt. It's an easy chiropractic fix; pop, pop, pop, and it's good to go in a day or two. Now, I get it every few months, but not as bad of flare-ups or loss of use.
I do some breathing exercises
I do breathing exercises in my car, but it's probably not why you do them. I'll have to breathe through four green lights to keep my cool before it's my turn to go in this city traffic. 🤣

I see that a lot of people here are into Yoga. It's something that I've been looking into to gain more flexibility. However, it seems to take so much time to do. An hour of yoga and then an hour in the gym, followed by an hour on the treadmill? I think I could just cut the Yoga out and do some 5-minute static stretching instead to save some time. 😅

I don’t go to the gym full-time, but I do practice yoga regularly to stay active and relaxed. Yoga helps me with both physical flexibility and mental clarity. It’s a great way to balance body and mind in daily life.
