Where does your head point when you sleep, I mean which direction? In my culture, it is prohibited to keep your head towards north. The best options are either south or east. It is believed aligning your head to the south while sleeping is believed to harmonize your body with Earth’s magnetic field, which may promote better rest and well-being.

Interesting cultural practice. Do you build homes to have bedroom windows facing north? It would be hard to decorate a room to align with this practice in some cases, unless the home was built to have south-facing windows, as some people prefer to have their heads below the window.

I had to pull up Google Maps to get an idea of where my head placement is, and it looks like I'm facing southeast. The layout of my house also has the other two bedrooms' beds facing the same direction.

Going back to architecture and decor, though. If my neighbors decorated the same, making the most of the space as they have similar floor plans, they would face north. Otherwise, facing any direction other than north would make the room less efficient for space and navigation.

I am not sure if everyone is practicing it or not but we have a design system that has been passed on since thousand of years. The design system called Vastu not only recommends how a house should be but also where the bedroom, kitchen sitting room, bathroom should be. They even have recommendations for the room for the head of the family and kids.

That would be so much help if you are buying a new build or know the move-in is "Vastu-compliant".

I'm sure there are plenty of floor plans to choose from where they're not all alike.

It is very common in our part of the world to consult "vastu-specialist" while buying a house. Some people who end up buying "faulty" house even makes structural changes to the property they buy.
I definitely wouldn't touch a modified structure.

The first home on our list when we were home shopping had a cement support column removed in order to give it a western layout. I passed that up in a second, even though they assured that it would be fine. There was really no way to tell if the roof would collapse or sag and crack without paying for a 3rd party architecture to determine whether the old floor plan and structure could support having that removed. Safer to just pass it up.

Wonder if a "vastu-specialist" there ensures no funny business and/or insures it if they modify a building to that extend?

Well, they have the logic and people who have deep faith in religion and culture buy their logic. Someone who isn't very religious would never consult vast. Those who have resources might be easily convinced to make changes. I know someone who demolished bathrooms on three floors of the house because they were in the "wrong direction"
