discuss Why is terrorism on the rise?

This thread covers all aspects of ideologies, including beliefs, principles, traditions, policies, and their influence on society and culture.
I think social media and news expansion makes terrorism seem more frequent.

I actually got my first master's degree in anti-terrorism and counterintelligence studies. I learned throughout graduate school that terrorism has been conducted for a long long long time before 9/11 and all the other famous incidents.

I do think it is on the increase.

Anytime there is a war in the Mid East, we're going to see an uptick. It is Arab against Jew right now but if it wasn't that it would be one Arab belief against the other Arab belief. The Taliban are terrorists. ISIS are terrorists. Taliban and ISIS attack each other.

I worry the US will start to see an uptick on attacks within the country. I feel like our inability to protect the border years before now has allowed potential sleeper agents to get in and I think they're just waiting to be activated.

I am a Muslim and just like other billions of Muslims out there, I also condemn groups like "isis". This "isis" group has absolutely nothing to do with our Islamic religion, despite the fact that this "isis" group might carry the "name" of Islam. However, just because a group is named after a religion, it does not necessarily mean that it also follows the religion itself.

I believe that right now israel and India are the real terrorists. The terrorist state of israel has attacked innocent Palestinians and terrorists countries like india, france, and even america are supporting israel. This is also one of the main reasons why so many Americans condemn their own government and support Palestine.

Being a Muslim, I fully support my Palestinian Muslim brothers and sisters and I curse israel daily. However, you don't need to be a Muslim to show your support for Palestine. In fact, a huge number of non-Muslims have also supported Palestine and expressed their sympathies for the people of Gaza.

Terrorism is on the rise truly and it is driven by political and ideological factors. Though it's a very complex situation to dive into because the whole issue revolves around governance and people trying to uphold what they think is right.
That, or more like terrorism has become a business. I say business, because it employs arms that are very expensive to purchase, and if the weapon business needs to go on in large amount (remember we otherwise hardly ever use a gun or grenade) there must be chaos and hatred to provoke the need to use these weapons. While we keep thinking that religion may be the only driving factor, we might be overlooking this angle.

I definitely don't think all Muslims are terrorists.

I mean the Jihad pillar isn't even a pillar of Islam, unless you're an extremist.

But I would like to challenge you a bit. Do you blame all of Israel? If you do, you're no better than the person who says all Muslim are terrorists. There are protests within Israel being conducted by Israelis that are against the combative operations.

I do wonder about that.

Terrorism is on the rise because a certain religion has it as one of their core doctrines that the infidels should not live. That's why every country that gives Islam a face is running a risk of being a hotbed for terrorism. The proliferation of Islam is the cause of terrorism in the world.

Terrorism is on the rise due to factors like geopolitical instability, ideological extremism, and political repression. Conflicts create fertile ground for radicalization. Similarly, online platforms amplify extremist ideologies, while weak governance allows terrorist groups to exploit power vacuums, deepening global security concerns.

If you think that Islam teaches or promotes terrorism, then you are pretty ignorant about Islam. You should not talk about religion if you have no knowledge about that specific religion. You have no clue about what Holy Quran or Hadith teaches. It is ignorant people like you who spread propaganda to mislead people. Shame on you.

It doesn't matters what is written in Quran or Hadith, because no holy book will ever teach terrorism or evil, but it is the misinterpretation of the knowledge for personal gain that produces terrorists. They manipulate the verses to their advantage and brainwash innocent people into believing the wrong meaning of the words.

You’re coming in with a blanket take that honestly does more damage than good. Saying terrorism is rooted in Islam? That’s just factually wrong and dangerously misleading. You’re not talking about extremists, you’re throwing an entire religion under the bus like it’s some monolith of hate, and it’s not. It’s over a billion people. Real people. Families. Kids. People trying to survive just like you and me.

Every religion has extremists. Christianity had the Crusades and the KKK. Buddhism’s had genocide movements. Hindu nationalism’s been violent. Hell, even political ideologies that aren’t religious have committed atrocities. So when you single out Islam, what you’re really doing is showing how narrow your lens is. It’s not Islam. It’s extremism. It’s radicalization. It’s broken systems and manipulation.

This kind of generalization? It’s how hate spreads. It’s how people get dehumanized. It’s how violence gets justified by people who feel “righteous” in their fear or anger.

If you’re scared of terrorism, I get it. That fear is valid. But if we let that fear turn into hate or bias, we’re just feeding the same cycle these extremist groups want. Division makes their job easier.

What actually causes terrorism? Corruption. War. Foreign interference. Oppression. Poverty. Extremists prey on chaos and hopelessness. Religion just becomes the excuse, not the cause.

I’m not here to fight you. But I am here to challenge this line of thinking because it’s not just incorrect, it’s harmful. If we want change, if we actually care about safety and peace, we need to be smarter than this.

So here’s my question back to you: Are you open to learning what’s actually fueling radicalization around the world or are you just here to push a narrative? Because one of those leads to solutions. The other? Just more division.

This "niyi brixx" is an idiot and we do not need to take such kind of people seriously. I have already reported this idiot "niyi brixx" to the admins of this forum. We do not need such kind of hatemongers in here on this forum. Let's hope he gets permanently banned from this forum.

You don't have to come out and start insulting someone in a forum like this. It's wrong!

I get his/her opinion on this isn't well articulated, it's left for us to put it right for him/her if he/she is willing to learn.

Take a look at what the mod @Cpvr did with his response to that. It's how to behave in a forum and not flying out with insults.

You already reported the account/post which I believe is a good thing. You should have stopped there and let @Harsh World and other mods take care of it if you weren't sanely going to engage in correcting his/her wrong thinking.

This is ROFLMAO: Unfiltered Discussions — and right now, you’re in the Ideology Intersection.

Every viewpoint is fair game. If your argument’s solid, let it stand. But let’s get one thing straight: personal attacks between members won’t be tolerated.

You’ve got three options:
  1. If a user offends you across the forum, ignore them.
  2. If this thread isn’t your flavor, move on or even ignore/hide it.
  3. If you don’t want to engage with controversial ideas at all, ignore/hide the Ideology Intersection forum entirely.
Choose your lane — and carry on. 🫡

So, you basically admit that this person is wrong, but you are still defending him? It is quite clear that you are also a hatemonger just like him. Shame on you.

We must understand that religious belief is a personal matter of every person. Attacking religious beliefs is akin to attacking a person. We must respect each other's religious beliefs and never generalize people. You will never find me attacking religious beliefs of people or generalizing people in an unfair manner. You stated that "every viewpoint is a fair game". However, generalizing people or religious beliefs is never fair at all. In fact, the act of generalizing people is actually unfair. Having said that, I believe that the post created by this @Niyi Brixx is quite disrespectful and akin to attacking a specific people in a personal manner. I even reported this person's offensive post. Therefore, kindly remove his post.

Because it makes for a faulty argument, too.

However, generalizing people or religious beliefs is never fair at all.
If it's never fair, and cool heads can't prevail, then the person casting the stone may never learn that.

Is not the same as:
personal attacks between members won’t be tolerated.

Foundations of major religions always have been militancy. Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, you name it, these religions were built buy killing people and forcefully converting them. Religion is the basis of terrorism. The fault lies in the thought that they can spread their religions just like in the dark ages and middle ages.

Terrorism can rise due to a mix of political, social, and economic factors. The obvious causes are ideological extremism, state instability, oppression, foreign intervention, and lack of opportunity. When people feel unheard or marginalized, some turn to violence to express grievances or push agendas. Technology and global networks have made radicalization and coordination easier.

Shame on me really? 🤣

It's very obvious that you just read comments to reply and never to understand first.

Edited personal attacks out.

Look at my country for instance. We are suffering from insurgency. And a vast majority of the perpetrators caught are all devout moslems. Statistically, if 98% of insurgency is caused by moslems in the the name of their God, we can rightly say that Islam is indeed a religion of peace. Bravo.

I would advice you leave it before he starts attacking you for your own opinion and assessment.

I've tried explaining but got attacked in between with the shame on me remark.

This discussion has gotten heated and I would indulge us to focus on the topic and not hate each other. Terrorism is a very complex issue and there are so many factors involved. So, instead of attacking ourselves, it would be nice if we could explore some of the underlying courses such as political, economic or social factors.
