Martial Arts is a common term used for different kinds of combat practices. There is no certainty over how many types of martial arts exist but one website lists 180 different kinds of martial arts. Since it is basically a combat practice, I always wonder why is it called art. I do not see anything artistic in fighting techniques. I mean what has it got to do with art when all you do is hit your opponent.

Martial arts involves more than just hiting your opponent. It requires skills, techniques and experience to be able to excel in the field. People consider it a joy to watch because they witness different kinds of moves, attack and defense techniques and Swift movements. All this makes it an art.
Of course martial arts is more than just physical combat. It's a movement inspired by combinations of how skill, technique and strategy come together to make it truly a thing of art.
