I have popularly seen in at-least two continents across the globe where the practice of getting a girl child married earlier than the boy child is quite a norm. Parents will first look for an alliance of the girl child even if the boy-child is the older sibling. Why do you think this has been happening? Can this practice still be justified in today's era?

A woman blossoms early and starts fading quite early too. By 18, a girl is looking all mature with all the features and guys are rushing her. An average 20 year old boy is still naive and learning how to talk to a girl. At 28, the woman starts fading. It is that age a man starts peaking. Since ladies peak earlier, they should marry earlier too.

Educated girls, who are trying to build career, are delaying marriage. This is very common not just in developed economies but even in the developing economies. Less educated girls, on the other hand, are getting married relatively at young age. Likewise, girls in urban areas are delaying their marriages but in rural areas girls are marrying in relative younger age.

Maybe that happens in your clime but in my place, a 23 year old girl in college would be so happy to see a man that would marry her. They are under constant pressure to get married as soon as they clock 22 regardless of if they want to build a career or not. Guys here don't want to get married and the ladies are finding a hard time to see husbands. That's why they would jump at a man that would marry them as soon as they are 20. They prefer to pursue the career married.

Maybe you are generalizing, or maybe it is cultural norm in your place to get married early. In my place, especially in the urban areas, anyone getting married under 25 years are considered very young.

Cultural expectations and social norms often influence why girls marry earlier in many societies. Family pressures, education access, and economic factors also play roles. From what I’ve seen, shifting these norms through education and empowerment helps delay marriage and expands life choices for women.
