Looking at social media trends, it's very clear Tiktok is experiencing more growth more than any other social media sites. Threads and Bluesky are also on the rise but Tiktok is far more ahead. There are many other social media sites which have likely faded away for one reason or another.

What could be the cause why some social media platforms fade while others thrive?

Facebook and Hi5 started almost at the same time but Hi5 faded away and Facebook became number one social media. I think the ones that fade away made one simple mistake, they either did not have original concept or could not adapt to the market demand.
Facebook streamlined the entire social media concept after knocking myspace out of the way. If they actually implemented videos from the beginning, I don’t think Tiktok would even be around today. They were late to the party, which allowed Tiktok to thrive.

Youtube was first with long form content, but Musically(tiktok at first) and Vine had the short videos concept. Tiktok may see like its growing, but a lot of their top creators aren’t exactly staying on their platform.

Especially since Youtube implemented shorts and Facebook/Instagram has them now too. There’s more options available than ever before, so creators don’t need to stick to one platform. Tiktok also grew has a dancing platform and trending songs, but without users dancing, it wouldn’t be a huge thing
