off-topic Which addiction is the most difficult to break free from?

For threads discussing subjects unrelated to the main forum topics.
All addictions are difficult to break. For instance, my father has book addiction. he is so addicted to buying books that sometime he ends up buying books with the money he was supposed to buy medicines.
I am addicted to work, I am so addicted that I work at the cost of my mental and physical health.

I have read how difficult it is to break away from masturbation. I don't do it, but I have a couple of friends who are looking for ways that they can be able to find a solution to such an addiction.
What is even the trigger for masturbation? Is it not unsatisfied sexual desire? I think that is a little bit easier for someone to break. Just get a partner that would satisfy your sexual urge absolutely and you won't have any need to masturbate. I stand to be corrected though.

You and your dad had what I would call positive addictions. Addiction to books and work would likely make you a better person and a lot of people would cheer you on. But you see other addictions that take from a person, those ones are real addictions. I believe it is quite easier to control positive addictions than the negative ones.

Coffee for me.

I've quit everything else but I'm not sure if I could function properly without coffee. I don't need a lot, but I have to have at least a cup to two a day to be able to be focused and on my game.

How about you, Kross?
I went like a year or two without drinking coffee everyday, but now i'm drinking it again. I also need at least 1-2 cups on a daily basis. I feel a lot better and energized/productive when I have coffee.

Those addictions certainly look very bad. They will ultimately harm your mental health. By the way, does your dad read all books he buys?

It is funny to assume that sex is all it takes to stop masturbation. There are those who uses sexual toys to masturbate and still have sexual intercourse. So, what exactly is the whole talk about having sex stopping the addiction?

Yes, he reads all the books he buys. He even remembers the books he read 30 years ago.

In a way, they are positive addictions. However, something addictions like these also put you in a lot of problems.

Apart from having to spend money impulsively on the books like your dad did, there is no other possible danger that I could imagine. As for being addicted to work, I am certain that you don't work into the night. You sleep. And as long as you do that, it is very healthy.

I know more than 15 people that are chained smokers. And all of them have desired and made genuine attempts to break free from smoking cigarettes. Only one has been able to succeed. I have seen these guys struggle to stop and get worse with every attempt. I think smoking is the most dangerous addiction to break free from.
