In South India, there is this practice of celebrating menarche for a girl. The tradition had been there since the ancestors introduced it, with the hope that the society would know that the girl is now matured for marriage and will have eligible suitors. Obviously, it was a good idea back then since, there were no other options like dating sites, internet , phones etc to communicate with everyone important. However, now in the time when, child trafficking and rape cases are escalating, how relevant is this practice of announcing that a household has a mature girl?
