I know that WhatsApp is more popular than Telegram but I believe that Telegram is more advanced and had more features than WhatsApp. I have the two. I use WhatsApp for messaging only. But I use Telegrm for different uses.
I am not very familiar with telegram but I use WhatsApp on a daily basis. Based on my understanding, both platforms have their uniqueness. Whatsapp is the best for personal conversation especially with friends and families but when you want to create a larger group, I think telegram is the best.
WhatsApp is a very good instant messaging app and the most popular in the world. There is no day that I don't use WhatsApp. But I prefer Telegram. The main reason is that you can send large files that are up to gigs in size through Telegram while you can't on WhatsApp.
When it has to do with the bigger group, it's always important to go with the telegram group. I have been in a couple of telegram groups, and their features outweigh any challenges that it brings.
I only use Telegram because of one movies and TV shows channel I was introduced to. They post movies and TV shows links to download or stream immediately they're released.

I've had to use the live chat support system of WhatsApp. I've only had an attempt of account hack once but I had my two factor authentication active which stopped the hacker.

Yes, Telegram allows larger file transfer, larger group calls, downloading movies and tv shows which makes it more suitable in certain instances.
I think WhatsApp is everyone's number one chat messenger especially with the introduction of WhatsApp business and Meta AI integration. However, Telegram has special use cases which makes it an indispensable app for me.
There are some people whom their number one favourite chat messenger is Discord or Facebook messenger. I know so many people using both as their first chat messenger.
Telegram is a big for those who are into cryptocurrency and airdrops.
I haven't used Telegram, but I'm familiar with Whatsapp. I'd personally say Whatsapp is better, but I'm biased. I'd rather not download other instant messenger service. I use signal as well from time to time.

The live support chat is pretty stable, and it's prompt. I have used it to contact my ISP and also the water company I use to for my water bills, and the system seem to be the same as you would find it on their website with live chat.
