While I love travelling in bigger vehicles especially on long trips along with a larger group of people, I personally would prefer to drive the smallest four-wheeler available. The reason being, it makes me feel less threatened to accidents, easier navigations and of course, easy parking. I also feel a certain comfort while being in smaller vehicles that I miss in larger ones. Which is your preference?

I have a full sized 4x4 pickup truck. It has a lot of safety features. However, I think people are the biggest safety feature and we need to start taking more responsibility for safety.
Try not to look at your phone. Pay more attention. It doesn't matter how big your vehicle is, it can still hurt someone badly especially a cyclist or a pedestrian.

I'm a safe driver, but when I go to the States, I either rent a full size pickup truck or SUV because:
I have a midsized car here because the speed limits rarely exceed 50kmph/30mph. Even in a direct head on collision with both going the same speed, with all the safety features in the car, that's a survivable 60mph collision, albeit still painful.
I worry about those around me driving 110kmph/70mph while texting (or drunk), which would be borderline deadly, if not deadly in a head on, in a smaller car.

I prefer to drive a big car because it gives me some level of control more than small cars. Most of my terrain is off road and having to drive a small car on such terrains is very limiting. That's why I prefer to use a big car, preferably SUVs.
I think the US speed limits are too fast, especially on interstates and freeways. I wish they would slow things down but people would freak the hell out.
I never felt unsafe with the speeds, but I also keep my distance from other vehicles, both from those ahead and those to my side, just in case of an unexpected blowout or other mechanical failure. I will match the speeds around me and ensure proper car length distances.
Though, I had an, "Oh, shit!" moment when I was in the States last time. I was going about 75, and the two cars ahead of me looked like they were going the speed limit. I didn't question why the left and right lanes were going the same speed, lined up, as typically, one will be going faster than the other, so there would be a distance between the two, or should have been at one point. It wasn't until I was at the point of no return did I realized that my mind was playing tricks on me and that they were both at a complete stop, as was the traffic ahead. I slammed on the brakes, with ABS kicking in to keep me straight, and came to a squealing stop about 1 to 2 car lengths behind them.
