How are live-in relationships regulated in your country?

In our country, certain states require that live in relationship should be registered. I see that this is the form of state recognising your liberty rather than it wanting to come down heavily on live in relationships. However, it should be ensured that personal data and privacy will be protected against unwarranted intrusions.

We had this huge discussion in class and people threw various many arguments that it should remain unregulated. However, I am curious to know the situation in other countries.

Living together is not controlled under any country's legal framework. Some persons propose that rules would secure partnership rights, although others say that such rules could restrict individual freedom to make personal decisions. So, striking a balance is very important.
Which do you think is better?

Should there be regulation for the foutain of rights to flow or should it be outside the state's interference?

I think it should have legal recognition so that they will get rights to pensionary benefits, adoption, prevention of cruelty and exploitation.

The state or government should not be that deep in anyone's personal life.

The only thing they should be aware of is a legal resident for the purpose of voting, but beyond that, they shouldn't care if 2 people are living together or 20 people are, unless there's a health or safety concern. Though, I err on the side of caution for that as that still leaves room for interpretation on what's safe, i.e., leaving it up to the government to dictate how many can occupy a space per sqft/sqm or how many toilets are required, etc., to house people.

You give the government an inch and they'll eventually stretch it to a mile.
