Joel Osteen is a prosperity preacher. A positive aspect of his ministry is this getting away from the effeminate cry-fest that people associate with church, but the negative is that the Christian Life isn't always about prosperity and church is about people repeating for sin and that's something that can be depressing.

Osteen’s positivity is uplifting, but Christianity also involves repentance, struggles, and deeper faith.

One source of Osteen's appeal is he isn't judging people (the church is seen as very judgmental), but then again, some judgement is reasonable.
