YouTube and other social media platforms are testing out hiding vanity metrics on their platform.

For example, they'll only show subscriber counts to you and no one else in some of the experiments. The idea is help stop "judging a book by its cover" or in this case, assuming subscriber count is the value of the channel and instead putting the actual content in front of a potential subscriber, instead.

How do you all feel about this idea? Do you think it's time for vanity metrics to go or should they stay? How do you justify the reason to keep them?

Instagram has also rolled out this feature where you can hide your views/likes from other users.

I think it all boils down to if you want to customize your profile to your liking. Some worry about their stats too much and it bothers them somewhat. So they prefer to hide it from the public.

I think it’s a good thing to enable creators to keep their stats public or private though.

I do think we might see metrics go away one day with social media.
