I just found a new hobby and I want to share with you all that I have learnt.

My new hobby is analysing balance sheets of companies. I started with reading balance sheets of small companies and now I can say with confidence if its a good company or a bad company based on financial health and other parameters.

Here is the quick thing I learnt - No one runs their companies with financial health in mind, but only profits.

Being able to read a balance sheet is a good skill to have if you are looking into long-term investing for company growth (I.e. fundamentals).

Pair that with their quarterly filings and annual reports to get a better insight as to how long you want to stay invested and you can make your money work quite well for you 10, 20, 30... years later as an added "pension".

I don't have any companies in my portfolio, only ETFs. But, some companies can make you extraordinary sums in comparison to ETFs. However, you need to stay on them with that balance sheet, quarterly filings, and annual reports to know if it's a continually good hold or something you should dump.

Watch out when private equity comes along! They can make a balance sheet still look good, until it's too late.
