Humans weren't meant to live in space, but I know this sounds like the argument that humans weren't meant to fly, but it's a way different thing.
Establishing a permanent base on Mars is a big job . There are quite a lot of challenges that they would encounter in the process. Though Elon Musk has made a significant effort, but we need to address some issues like radiation and life support systems on that planet first.
I believe humans will be able to set foot in 10-15 years but as for colonization, I do not think they will be able to build a human settlement in another 50 years.
