Many people mistakenly believe that the Atari 2600 was the first home console. Did you know that it's actually not the first home console, but instead the Magnavox Odyssey was? This console made it's debut in 1972 which predates the 2600 by 4 years! In fact, the 2600 is actually part of the second generation of gaming. The Odyssey cannot produce any sound, since there's no dedicated sound chip. Interestingly the Odyssey also came with a few physical goods such as dice, overlays to place on your television and paper money. This console even had a few successors throughout the years, but ultimately Atari became the household name when their 2600 launched. Since it's such an obscure console, it makes me wonder if anyone here actually ever got to play this before. If there's any units left I'm sure they have hardware issues and you can't even play it on modern televisions so you'd have to have a CRT lying around with the proper connection.
