I have this habit of getting very inspired by songs. Earlier today I listened to 'All of me' by John Legend and the part he said 'my head's under water but I'm breathing fine' kinda got to me.
So I went to swim earlier today and I decided to try it so as to relate with him. But guess what? I almost drowned.

John Legend has some explanation to do, he can't dish that kind of lie and get away with it

It's a metaphor.

Probably means that a lot is going on in his head, but he's breathing fine, or able to process it in a healthy manner, or something to that extent.
