Hard work does lead to success. In fact, even long hours at janitor jobs etc. is pushing people up, generally.

Well, some are obsessed with online or college dreams, but a better idea might be accepting physical jobs (janitor etc.) and putting off other stuff.

I think the idea that hard work leads to success is just an oversimplification. Hard work should be important, but it is not the only factor in success. Some other factors also come into play. I have seen people work like hell but still have huge blocks in front of their goals.

So while hard work is essential, we should realize that hard work is not the only thing in play here. Some people are not so hardworking and they are quite successful. All we need is a fair society, where opportunities are there for everyone.

The word; 'hard work leads to success' story may be misleading. Opportunities and resources play a major role in success. I have lived through situations where hard work did not pay off, and it was frustrating.

But I think hard work and diligence may still be powerful keys to being successful. It has to be fueled with wisdom. For instance, skills acquisition may even help out.

There has never been a time that hard work guaranteed success. That idea was just a motivational speech to make people leave laziness. Smart work rather gave success to people. The people that do manual work of clearing of farms work the hardest but they are the poorest. Switch from hardwork to smart work.

Where I'm at now there are limited jobs and seniority, so it would be tough to enter this market, even if you were a hard worker.

Hard-work in the sense that you leave the basic human instinct of not being indulged at all to push for a goal strategically would always pay off. On the other hand, the wrong notion that the people that push to the extreme in physical activity would achieve success is a clear myth. There is a place for strategy when it comes to work.
