Musical instruments are very costly and are always prone to the damage and wear and tear of movement while in transit when we take them along with us in our journeys.

That begs the question - do you take insurance for your musical instruments?

I have a guitar which is very dear to me and cost me a furtune. I have it insured and feel peace while travelling with it.

I never thought that insurance would be available for instruments, but it makes sense as I've seen violins that are worth $1,000,000+.

It should've been a given to me as I know there is insurance for photographers that protects not only the gear they work with but also protection against data loss, so if they lose an important shoot, the clients are still compensated (even though the memory would be "lost").

Glad that you have your stuff insured.

Is it just for damage or is theft/loss covered too?

Jesus Christ

Its so much money and you havent thought about insurance?!!

Yes, the insurance covers everything that includes damage, calamities, theft/loss. Some high premium insurance also covers the normal wear and tear and provides for service charges.

You should take it, as soon as it is possible for you too. The risk of holding that valuable an instrument is too much and not taking an insurance is just multiplying the risk 100X.

Oh, no, I was just looking back on Discovery Channel (type) shows where they were showing $1,000,000 violins. And, when they'd walk it to the violinist, I would always cringe like, "Oh, boy, I hope he got some step left in him."

As if the person delivering the violin tripped, that thing would go down into 1000s of splinters, much like a Lego house build would just scatter across the floor.

Those have to be insured. No doubt.

I don't currently have any instruments that are expensive enough to need insuring (my best guitar is only worth $500 at the absolute most), but when I was younger I did used to play the Double Bass and the particular one I had was very expensive. I remember being told that if I damaged it, a replacement would be £3,000+, a lot of money to anyone, but especially to a kid. :D
