discuss Has Secularism Strengthened or Weakened the West?

The West has largely shifted away from religious governance, embracing secular values. Some argue this has led to more personal freedoms, while others say it has eroded moral foundations. Do you think secularism has benefited Western societies, or has it removed something essential?

 

[Jason]

Well, a lot of "religious imposing" is pointless. For instance, making the public sphere (schools etc.) religious to some degree isn't going to change society, because it's the people at home (the parents etc.) that do.

Take a Christian school etc, for example. Do you really feel the kids there are different than the ones in public schools? Not really, because parenting at home is what makes kids different from each other.

But there is this movement that believes if only we put God back in school, that will make society better.

I'm a free thinker and an astute supporter of secularism. I believe it strengthens our freedom and helps the marginalized realize their importance, not eroded with the traditional framework or structure which is not helping matters at all. It removed social fragmentation and disconnection from the outside world. That's the reason why secularism would always be my thing.
