Anorexia and bulimia stem from psychological and societal factors. Recovery requires addressing mental and physical health. What’s your take on eating disorder causes? Do you have it? Any recovery tips?
When I was in my teens., I used to eat a lot when I was angry and frustrated. I did not know I had some kind of eating disorder but as I gradually grew older, my eating disorder went away. These days I eat as a therapy. When I am sad and angry, or frustrated I eat but I don't over eat.
Anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are the extreme in the eating disorder spectrum, however, sadly, the eating habits that are in-between are never addressed or recognized and unfortunately these are the ones dominating in our society, but are never seen as illness or any health disorders. We see a lot of metabolic disorders affecting the globe, and one of the many precipitating factors is eating habit. Both these extreme conditions can be treated using both medicines and therapies but are quite a challenge in that patients may go back to their original state once they are away from the medical facility.
Eating disorders are complex because they stem from a mix of biological, psychological, social, and environmental factors. They often involve deep-rooted emotional struggles, such as anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem, making treatment challenging. Additionally, the physical effects of disordered eating can reinforce harmful behaviors, creating a cycle that is difficult to break.
