Duolingo recently pulled off a stunt - announced that its world famous mascot has died.

A few days later, they post that it was involved in an accident by an unknown CyberTruck driver.

Then magically, the birdie appears again. I am unsure if its some changes in the top level management that made this change and then had a mind flip or was it an elaborate marketing stunt?

Any ideas or guesses?

It was just a marketing stunt. The initial announcement attracted a lot of attention as people were genuinely upset. There was a follow-up explanation that users brought him back by completing their daily language lessons. It actually worked; a few days ago, the company forecast annual revenue above annual estimates.
Whatever it is, it has been a stellar performance.

The advertisement has enabled spreading the news of the Duolingo app and the stunt was pulled out perfectly! I understand that they received quite a few subscribers in to their premium category and many people resumed their languages with the app.

In that sesne, it has been a success.
