For a player that is so good that he was a strong contender for the balloon d' or, it is clear that he getting a new and improved contract is not even debatable. He has made a big impact on the team since signing his last contract. He deserves a better contract from that.
If Vinicius Jr wants to have the slightest chance at the Balon d'or in subsequent seasons, he better stay in Madrid.

You are right. I believe that most of the issues that they had this season stem from the fact that they were complacent and not ready to compete seriously against the top guys such as Barcelona and the rest. See how they lost woefully against Arsenal after making a lot of noise on social media.
To show how important Vinicius Jr is to Real Madrid, they never forced him to give up the left wing for Mbappé when he joined the club. Mbappé always get whatever he wanted when he was playing for PSG but that's not happening in Real Madrid for him.
