But I didn't know that they still had a user base.
What server did you join and how many active users are in the channels? It would be something if (m)IRC could dethrone Discord because of privacy concerns.
I joined DALnet and #CafeChat seems to be the most active channel
That actually sounds familiar from the past. If it's what I'm thinking of, it has to be the oldest chatroom on the internet, bar none.

Eight and just getting my first taste of computers. I didn't find mIRC until I was around 10, which unlocked a wave of new media that I never thought existed.
