Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, PBS, BBC, the list goes on.

Do you trust mainstream media sources? Do you trust them to not be biased?

How about these alternative news providers like Ground.news that claims it shows you how left, centered, or right a story is? Do you think they're more trustworthy?

How do you all feel about mainstream media?

Don't trust it, and don't trust Ground.News not to be a little algorithmic bias (or take part in a little "payola" to balance some stuff out to shift clicks over).

I follow independent journalists for my news and check more than one source for a more balanced coverage.

That's typically who I follow.

They're trying to develop their own reputation and most know if they get too bias about something, it could give them a name for life.

No. No, absolutely not. The media is controlled by the oligarchs. Scumbags like Rupert Murdoch (News Corp & Fox Corporation) own vast swathes of the media, and they have an agenda. That agenda is to get richer and more powerful. That absolute gibbon, Elon Musk, uses Twitter as a propaganda tool. It's 'free speech' as long as it's his version of the truth. That cesspit X has become an echo chamber of right-wing bullshit.

If you give control of your media to private citizens who have an agenda which is at odds with the majority of the population, anticipate those individuals using their platforms to tell you what they wants you to THINK. Not what the want you to know, what they want you to THINK.

I could say the same for MSNBC, ABC, CNN, and especially CBS, as they committed big journalistic malpractice by editing in Kamala Harris's answer after she made a non-answer to make it appear somewhat coherent after the fact.

You have to admit that Community Notes is much better now as it will allow the community to note both sides and not be biased toward just one.

There's still liberal propaganda and lies remaining from those who just can't leave the platform. This user, in particular, is one of the many major offenders of that:

But for your reasons stated, that's why I follow independent journalists and check both sides to get the full picture. Harry Sisson is just too easy to debunk, so I had to name-drop him.

They are all just as bad as each other, and just proves my point that the media is trying to control what we think.

  • Comcast – Owns NBCUniversal, including NBC, CNBC, MSNBC, Telemundo, USA Network, and Universal Pictures.
  • The Walt Disney Company – Owns ABC, ESPN, Disney Channel, 20th Century Studios, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Hulu (majority stake).
  • Paramount Global (formerly ViacomCBS) – Owns CBS, Showtime, MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, and Paramount Pictures.
  • Warner Bros. Discovery – Owns CNN, HBO, Warner Bros. Pictures, TNT, TBS, and Discovery Channel.
  • Fox Corporation – Owns Fox News, Fox Business, Fox Sports, and the Fox broadcast network (Note: Disney owns the entertainment assets of 21st Century Fox, but not the Fox broadcast network).
  • News Corp – Owns The Wall Street Journal, New York Post, The Times (UK), and The Sun (UK).

Most of the mainstream news outlets are controlled by six corporations. They all have an agenda to push, whether that's left or right, labour or tory, republican or democrat. The interesting thing though is that all of these outlets are in the business of making money. You can't trust news services who have a main goal of making money. This is where click-bait comes from, especially with the demise of news media.

My preferred news service is my local free newspaper.

I don’t trust main stream media, they are businesses and businesses always have money concerns. They make news for money.
Same here. A lot of the mainstream media is hyped and not accurate. I always do my own research.
