One of the best strategy which online influencers use very well and often is keying into making controversial contents. This is because it's what's going on boost traffic to their page which in turn makes them popular and make them more money too.

Without controversial contents, would online influencers become irrelevant in the social media space?

I do think they’d become somewhat irrelevant if they didn’t create controversy content as they get more views and followers by doing so. If they stopped doing it, their accounts wouldn’t grow as fast.

I actually think there are lots of good contents that are not controversial. Think about cooking videos, cake baking, ASMR and even game streaming. All these are non controversial content that is being banked by the content creators.

However, what I do think is that once there is no controversial contents, either social media will create some controversy or it may help clean the system.

There is, but these videos generally do well on Youtube, Tiktok and others, however, if creators want to "Blow" up so to say, they create controversial content to make thousands. Cooking videos don't generate the money like controversial content does, which is why creators do it, they know it'll get them the reactions, likes, and discussion that the platforms want.

It's the same thing that blog owners used to do back in the day, they'd create a piece that's "controversial" so to say just so they can gather a bunch of backlinks and rank well on the search engines. There isn't so much of a difference here.

Controversial content definitely helps get attention, but it’s not the only way.
Many influencers grow by sharing valuable, entertaining, or educational content.
In the long term, quality and consistency matter more than controversy.
