discuss Do you back-answer to your elders?

Some cultures like the African and Indian, see back-answering to the elders as disrespectful and unacceptable. Obviously, this applies to everyone regardless of caste or creed, and no one would find it entertaining to be disrespectfully retorted. However, the younger generation, find it quite easy to back-answer their parents and elders as they deem it their right to speech. Do you as an adult, still refrain from back-answering to your elders despite being in the right, just to pacify the situation and out of respect?

In my country, you don't talk back at elders. It is the height of insult. Even the younger generations have been patterned to align to that. The culture of respect is so much ingrained in the working of the society. What do you expect from a culture that the younger person has to prostrate to greet a older person?

It is disrespectful in our culture. However, in the case of educated individuals, both elders and younger, they do have a healthy debate.

I try to avoid back-answering my elders, as it’s considered disrespectful in our culture. Even when I disagree, I aim to express myself calmly and respectfully to maintain harmony and show regard for their experience.

I do answer back to elders, I am not someone who can accept anything from people just because they are my seniors or they are someone I need to respect. However, I am never offensive, I do not try to demean them . I am always respectful.

So, because someone is an elder they shouldn't be talked to? This is a complete nonsense and crap mentality or mindset. Everyone old or young need to be talked back to whenever there's a good reason to do so. It doesn't mean that shouldn't be done with respect as well.

Depends on how much liking or respect I have for the person although I won't stand for a younger person's disrespect whether or not it is justified.
