A lot of people take smoking as a great pass time, especially when they get together with friends. The habit of drinking alcohol and smoking starts with peers as "just one or two puffs" to pass time and eventually end up becoming an inseparable part of one's life. Did you too start smoking or drinking as a time-pass activity?

No, I don’t smoke—I’m all about promoting healthy choices.
But if someone starts smoking just to pass time, it’s usually a sign they need better ways to cope or stay engaged.
There are much healthier and more fulfilling ways to handle boredom or stress.

I have never smoked and never will, but I know many people who have done so, and a lot of them got into smoking because they wanted to try it or because they wanted to look cool around their friends.

Seeing now how many people struggle to quit smoking that I know, it makes me thankful that I never tried and fell into the habit.

I started smoking when I was young. I wouldn't say that I did it to pass time. It's now apart of my life, I may quit one day, but I'm not entirely sure when that will be. I've been smoking on and off since I was 18.

Switch to Zyn and work your way down. Cheaper than the gum alternative. :p

I started smoking when I was 9 or 10 years old.

I did it because older peers did it and it looked cool. I'd steal my stepdad's cigarettes and get away with it up until I was about 13. I remember the whipping I got when I finally got caught. I'm sure that belt hit me at least 100 times!

After that? I still kept smoking and got a few more big spankings for it afterwards but eventually they gave up because I was addicted to smoking and was not willing to stop.

I smoked for 20 years. I also chewed Redman. I started vaping to quit smoking and chewing and it worked. My stepdaughter who was 12 at the time told me I should quit vaping. Never had a little kid tell me that before. I quit the next day, cold turkey, and never went back.

Been smoke free for 7 or 8 years now. I do not miss it at all. I support taxing the hell out of it, raising the legal age, and even banning it.

Never smoked and never will. I couldn't anyway as I have a lung disease.

I am sorry about your situation. How are you coping with it? I hope that there are ways that you get to have a very good life. You know some of these life issues can be handled better once we are aware of what to eat and what to avoid.
