discuss Cryptomining

A thread covering the latest news on trends, groundbreaking technologies, and digital innovations reshaping the tech landscape.
I have never fully understood the whole idea of cryptomining.

From what I have read, any device maybe used for cryptomining. If that is true, then how can I convert my mobile phone or laptop to a crypto-mining device?

Please illuminate my small brain.
ten years ago, you could have mined crypto on your phone or normal laptop, today this is simply not possible. Well, we can of course mine but the reward will be negligible.

You can transform a mobile phone or laptop into mining hardware through specific actions although the conversion process require some basic steps. If it's a mining pool, it requires the connection of software like CGMiner or EasyMiner. But it's good to know that both mobile device and laptop has limitations because mining is demanding. It may results in overheating and reduced battery life of the device.

You can with apps like Ember, but you don’t make much. There’s also the Pi network that lets you mine the Pi coin. It just hit the mainnet after being in development for a while.

I save all my old phones, so I might just boot them up and load this to see if I could mine some Pi.

I'm skeptical about apps being on my main phone, as not only is it a flagship, but I don't want any sensitive information leaking from it (i.e., my other wallets). Unsure if they can, but it's better to be safe than sorry when holding as much as I do.

I don't know Ember by I used Crypto tab to mine. reward was so low that I decided to quit. Never used Pi, never trusted this thing but I hear it is now available for exchange and trade on some crypto exchanges.

We’ll both get mining boasts.

The pi network is legit. It just hit the mainnet the other day, but the price dropped by a lot. That was expected though as a lot of people wanted to sell what they mined instead of holding. It’s now trading at $.073.
