discuss Can social media broaden our perspectives?

This thread covers all aspects of ideologies, including beliefs, principles, traditions, policies, and their influence on society and culture.
It all depends on person. A person who is narrow minded will continue to have narrow mind when he is using social media and a person who has broad mind will have broader perspective when he uses social media.

I wouldn't really see it that way but will base it on the kind of contents which the person with a narrow mind as you put it used to watch. If he or she views contents that are more likely to teach, he or she will learn.

Social media platforms are programed in a way that it will deliver content according to users interest.

I think in a lot of ways, yes. For me, I have been exposed to many different perspectives that I may not have come into contact with on social media, and have developed a better understanding of the nuances of why people hold these perspectives. When entering an online community where people hold similar beliefs they can feel more comfortable to be honest in ways they might not reveal to me if I were to chat with them IRL. The other side of that coin is that communities can and often do become echo chambers. Unless you consciously decide to search for varying perspectives, you'll see more of the same within these communities, and so your perspective will remain largely the same. I guess it comes down to intentionality, which I think would be the deciding factor with or without social media.

Meta products especially Instagram says hold my beer because you ain't see anything yet.

A lot of crap fills up my feeds which I keep choosing not interested but it keeps getting worse.
That's what happening to me with all Meta products. So, these days I am using Meta products less.

I am willing to have an open mind about things, but a lot of things I read are simply a window into other minds which I find interesting, but just don't change my mind. For instance, there is this lady who is left-wing and she posts on Facebook. I admire her conviction, but honestly, I think ladies like her are the reason Trump became powerful, you know, that whole self-righteous preachy thing the left has.

Seriously, it's very annoying because their algorithm gets so bad that users accounts are banned and suspended without any good reason. I was suspended 30 days on Facebook for saying I swear in agreement to a comment.

They blocked my Facebook account for 24 hours because "I liked too many photos" (of my own brother). How stupid was that.

You're giving too much likes to your brother and their algorithm isn't happy about that 😂 😂

Seriously, Meta need to revamp their entire algorithm because it's killing their products.
