Betrayal from family can hurt more than anything else. Have you ever been betrayed by a parent, sibling, or close relative? How did you cope? One has to forgive every kind of betrayal whether it is from a relative or friend. Holding unforgiveness in the heart does more damage to the person betrayed. Moreover, we will all need forgiveness at one point or the other because we can't avoid offending one another.

I have been there and I learnt that protecting oneself and emotional health remains the priority. To be at peace, you should let go and forgive but a complete reconciliation might not be possible.

Family would always be family. The hurts would be deep and you might avoid them for some time. But that notwithstanding, you would have to eventually forgive that family member. Blood is always thicker than water.

There are levels of hurts that a family person can do to you and you forgive. Certain hurts, you simply can't forgive. Imagine a family member saying bad things about me to a girl that I loved and was dating simply because he wanted the same girl. I have forgiven though but can't ever be close to such a cousin.

I have in the past been betrayed by a family member, and it is true, it hurts more than anything else. I don't believe that betrayal from a family member always leads to completely cutting ties with that family member, but maybe a break from that family member for a while to let them think about what they have done and how much it has affected the rest of the family is sometimes more than enough.
