Epicurean means some who enjoys food, drinks and merry making. This word comes from Greek philosopher Epicurus who lived before the Christ. I am epicurean by nature, what about you?

Eating and drinking for survival and actually enjoying food and drink are two different things, right? Well, I know a lot of people who eat just because they are hungry, there is no enjoyment in their eating habit.Aren't we all epicurean by nature of being human? We all eat, we all drink.
I used to eat and drink for the enjoyment of things. But then, I was rushed to finish my meals because that is time away from the job that could get someone harmed.Eating and drinking for survival and actually enjoying food and drink are two different things, right?
Even though I came from a pre-cook background and enjoyed sitting down and eating a nice burger or steak that I helped prepare.I consider myself a bit of an amateur chef.
This is a wider symptom of the instant-gratification we see in the world now. We (collective 'we') favour immediate satisfaction over curated experiences. I do truly fear the world that my children and grandchildren will inherit. There is less beauty in the world if we don't take our time to appreciate experiences.Today? You put a plate in front of me, and it's all just one ingredient: Done in 5 minutes or under. I just can't shake the habit of eating fast.
It's not for the instant gratification of eating, it's because I could never shake the habit after leaving the military where we were forced to eat in under 2 minutes, sometimes as little as 30 seconds if we did something bad prior. This is a wider symptom of the instant-gratification we see in the world now. The funny thing is, I was a prep-cook before the military and a cook in the military. But, as a prep-cook, unlike the line cooks or chefs, you don't get time to eat either. And, the only time you have to eat in the military is when the food is served to everyone, which still leaves you little time, as you have to immediately get to making the kitchen spotless (not a speck of dirt on anything).I am very lucky in that food has always been made to be a pleasurable experience for me. I took over the family business from my Dad. We have always been into food - both preparing and consuming.
Found a short that explains me.Today? You put a plate in front of me, and it's all just one ingredient: Done in 5 minutes or under. I just can't shake the habit of eating fast.
