discuss Are people who hate MAGA just uptight squares?

This thread covers all aspects of ideologies, including beliefs, principles, traditions, policies, and their influence on society and culture.
Do you feel this is overkill?
Laughably overkill.

If the United States wanted to invade Canada, in a military operation, they would take it in a matter of hours as all they'd need is Ottawa, and the house of cards would fall and get in line before Canada could even launch a counter-attack nuke (that would get shot down anyway).

They could have a lot of nukes coming from Europe and also China, whatever it takes.

But, even assuming you're right, the real problem would be controlling a hostile population that doesn't want to be a part of the US.

A hostile population without fundamental gun rights ownership?

The Northern "flyover" states would join a militia and deal with them in a heartbeat, too.

It's laughable that Canada poses any threat, now, or even with nukes.

So, we would just have a lot snooty french-type people under our rule, right? A lot of passive aggression is there with nothing to back it up.

As to why it's a joke. It's to reinforce that Canada needs us more than we need them.

They will have to bend to us for anything (see: tariffs). Nobody else can support them like we do. They would be in utter economic collapse if the US cut them off.

It's interesting how militas are for freedom like "The Republic of Texas" and stuff, but they don't support Canada's freedom.

Texas is a different story because the Texas Constitution wasn't ratified to be equal wording to the United States' Constitution (which would be the difficult hurdle for Canada to join), allowing them to secede from the Union if they ever chose to. However, in the SCOTUS case, Texas v. White, it was ruled that "when Texas became one of the United States, she entered into an indissoluble relation."

So, it's not a meritless argument.

It's doubtful to ever happen with so much federal influence and power over Texas. However, Trump is giving power back to the States (by supporting the overturning of Roe v. Wade), which doesn't make it impossible in the future for it to happen, falling back on Texas' original Constitution.

It's kind of out of my territory of fully understanding, but legal scholars could make a case for both instances, and that will be the final outcome once and for all, whichever is agreed upon.

I still don't know how you expect Canadian annexation to be good idea. Is there a plan to bring in Americans to destroy Canadian identity, lol (You know like the Ulster Scots in Ireland)?

Trump is really turning into the bad guy, day by day.

I don't think it's a good idea. They should stay independent.

The threat (I would call "trolling") of annexing Canada was to get them in line and get fairer trade agreements done. I don't think the majority on the right bought into the idea; it was only used as a fear tactic from the left to paint Trump as a dictator (even more than they do) and was bought by more on the left than the right.

Yeah, everything Trump is doing isn't good, even from a right-wing perspective.
