music Are Lyrics More Important Than the Beat in Music?

For threads introducing new music releases, discoveries, or recommendations.
The beat usually catches my attention first before the lyrics, but the lyrics are more important than the beat. You can have a great beat, but without good lyrics, the song won’t be as good.

The beat got me, then the lyrics got me like 🤣. Definitely not a song I'd add to my "forever" playlist.

I suppose it’s a mix of both. The rhythm can make me listen to the song, but the lyrics are the reason I eventually find myself listening to it on the regular. This is why if the lyrics of the song speaks to me in some manner, then I appreciate the music even more. But if the beat is lacking, one cannot even listen to the song regardless of how well written the lyrics might be.

The beat comes from Jibbs's song "Chain hang low" but she can throw that track back in the recycle bin where it belongs.

Song is like a good meal. Just one ingredient alone cannot make it palatable, it has to be a mix of many ingredients. For me, lyrics and beats are two very crucial ingredients, so I cant assign importance weight to one over the other.
in that case, what songs are we playing at the bbq event?
