Between working and dieting, which one do you focus more on when it comes to trying to lose weight? I feel that you need to balance two of them in order to have a good result because if you're working out but having your diet messed up, all the efforts invested in working out is a waste of time.

Which one is more effective for losing weight between working out and dieting?

I work out more.

My workout involves cycling, hiking, kayaking, and stuff like that. To me, that's a fun adventure. Dieting is not that fun. Starving isn't very entertaining to me, LOL. So, I try to push the limits with my recreation.

Saturday, I participated in a 30-mile gravel bike race. I gained about 2,500 feet of elevation. That's where I lose weight, the hills!

Yesterday I hiked at 4 different places, getting about 500 feet of elevation total but 6 miles of hiking.

You're absolutely right about that, it's not fun starving in any way but what can some people who can't help it over eating all the time when they are trying to keep a good shape? Some of them are too lazy to workout more often or actively.

I do need to get into hiking more this year. It's part of the outdoor activities I really enjoy doing.

Studies have proved that dieting plays a bigger role when it comes to losing weight. I am not saying that exercise should be avoided. Many people do spend hours in gum, but they are still not able to lose weight because they overlook dieting, which could be a bigger mistake.

You need to work out as well as eat proper diet, however, if I have to choose one, I will choose diet. if I eat proper diet, I can stay fit and healthy even when I do not work out. If I do not put excess calories, if I eat enough fiber, avoid saturated fats, I can remain healthy.

You nail it with this comment. I see some who are active in the gym, not worrying about how to become better or great with the way that they eat. They just focus on eating anything and whatever comes to their mind without minding the dangers of doing so.

Diet.

You can be a sedimentary person and still lose weight by consuming less food.

Calories In, Calories Out still applies to a person that sits on the couch all day.

ChatGPT can break down maintenance calories pretty well using my sedentary example over exercise.
A 150 lb, 5'6", sedentary male needs about 1,930 calories/day to maintain their current body weight.
When asked how many calories they need to cut back on per day to lose 10 pounds in 3 months:
To lose 10 pounds in 3 months, a 150 lb, 5'6", sedentary male should aim for about 1,540 calories per day.

That said, gaining muscle with exercise increases the need for more calories to keep it on.

I'd say diet is key, but exercise will make it more comfortable as you reach a point where you can maintain a healthy weight with more calories — it's really win-win: healthier and get to eat more without getting too fat too quick.

Researches show us the importance of a healthy, balanced diet for losing weight and exercise act as an augmentation to speed up the weight loss. Exercise is crucial in building up muscle mass that diet can not give. Diet simply diminishes fats and in extreme cases muscle mass which may not be the aim of an individual trying to lose weight. It also leaves an overtly overweight person flabby, while exercise gives the toned body appearance even though the person loses a great amount of weight. Hence, both go hand in hand while losing weight.
