discuss Why Some Movie Franchises Never End?

This is a thread to discuss anything related to movies.
The cynical part of me would say it's simply the money that keeps these series alive and kicking. Many of them don't have more "stories to tell" as such and get ever more wild and fanciful with plotlines just to keep the franchise going. I'm not a big fan of many film series at all that go on too long, with one major exception being the Harry Potter series which I thought was great and was truly a story-telling journey.

I totally agree - its all about the money.

Some franchise are too good to be removed - The Star Wars and Star Trek. Oh, I also forgot Mr.Bean!

But the Toystory guys needs to stop since it isnt doing that well.

One series which stopped quite at the right place was Home Alone.
I 100% agree with you!

Toy story needs to stop, it's getting beyond a joke as previously mentioned!

on the topic of home alone, yes i agree it stopped at the right place and if they were to do a next one, it would be cool to see a teenage version but with the same people... if that makes sense i think it would be really good

Thats a really good upgrade you are suggesting. The theme and story line is great but it would be difficult to have a line of story in which a teenager messes up with his/her family not being near to him/her.

That would bring an entirely new set of challenges but some really good plotlines.

I left out the best part: it would be the grandchildren...

I wonder if they keep these things going because they are having a hard time coming up with new ideas.

If they need some new ideas, there are some wonderful books that could be made into a movie. You'd attract a whole new audience that way.

I think Toy Story is one of thoses franchise that need to stop... number 1 and 2 were great, however i feel like its starting to get out of control and ruining the franchise for me...
Toy Story was the perfect ending to the Trilogy. It was a perfect ending. It’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen, and if you’ve watched the first two, it hits even harder. Then, a few years later, they made Toy Story 4. I have no desire to see it. The story already had the perfect conclusion so why go beyond that? I don’t care if it’s good.

I am always disappointed in movies that seem to never end. The producers just want to milk more from them and there are so many movies that are suffering from this.

The studios producing such movies are always prioritizing the profit over entertainment and this is the reason we have a lot of unnecessary sequels and reboots that do not live up to the original out there

Fast & Furious, Transformers, Final Destination, Saw etc. Hollywood keeps franchises alive. Are endless sequels a safe bet, or do they hurt storytelling? What long-running franchise should have ended years ago? What is your favorite franchise?
I think most producers and writers find it difficult to make an ending that would satisfy its customers.
