It's always good to follow the ethics in making films especially in matters like violence, trauma, or social justice issues. So, it is very important for filmmakers to put the interest of their audience into consideration. Challenging subjects should be treated sensitively and understatedly to inspire awareness. Where do we draw the line?

I would say that SNUFF or other attacks on unwilling participants cross the line.

Everything else, if consenting, is fine. It's up to the producers to rate it appropriately before distribution so that the audience knows what they are getting themselves into.

Nobody is forcing you to watch anything.

The biggest problem I have is the amount of violence that is shown.

I remember I spent at least two sleepless nights after watching the latest film from 'Joker' franchise. It was so dark and violence filled that it made me very anxious and stressed. Some people justify these kinds of dramas in the name of 'licensed tags' and 'experential film making'. But, everything has limits.
