off-topic What's the best way to handle a toxic workplace?

For threads discussing subjects unrelated to the main forum topics.
A toxic work environment has recently become a huge issue for me. So, I need advice about finding ways to handle it. What steps do employees take to handle the challenges of an unpleasant professional setting? Is it possible to maintain sanity and develop realistic perspectives to get out of this?
If you can -- quit.

Seriously. I quit my job over a year ago to get away from the toxic environment. It was stressing me out so much that I was getting ulcers in my stomach.

No job or money is worth hurting or dying for.

I quit without a job lined up. Luckily, a cycling buddy had an opening for an investigator position, and that's what I do now. Love every bit of it. If you can find a job you love going to, you've made it in life.

I agree with this statement. The best way to deal with toxic environments is to leave. There's no sense in trying to prove you're tough or have a thick skin. However, though, some jobs, like teaching, for instance, require some amount of a thick skin, but if the bullying is over-the-top, then it's a sign to leave.

I have never worked in a place that I felt was very toxic. I resigned from my last job not because the workplace was toxic but because I had a fight with the CEO. Generally speaking, the CEO was a nice man but in one situation he threatened me to fire. I resigned before you could actually fire.

Well, even though the best solution to handle a toxic workplace would be to resign most of the time you might not be able to do it because you might not be able to leave the job immediately. The best option is to continue to look for the job and remain low profile in your existing job.
