I find it very difficult to use a smartphone with any crack on the screen. Even if it's the screen guard glass, once it's broken a little bit, I will change it immediately. It's why I but spare screen guard glass and keep at home. It irritates me seeing a phone screen that's cracked and rough.

I put a picture of my wife on my lockscreen.

Then it's a scenic overlook on my main background.

My lockscreen is a picture of my daughter and my niece. I have a screen protector on my phone and there isn't any cracks on it. If there's a crack on it, my phone will be perfectly fine. I have a military grade phone case on it that's similar to an otterbox.
