Instagram Threads, Meta’s X competitor, has now grown to over 350 million monthly active users, CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed during the company’s Q1 2025 earnings call on Wednesday. That’s an increase of 30 million users since the prior quarter, where Meta reported that Threads had 320 million users.

The new figure represents increased growth, as Threads added 30 million in the first quarter of this year, compared with 20 million in Q4 2024. It’s also worth noting that in a single quarter, Threads added nearly the same number of users to its network as one of its newer competitors, Bluesky. The latter, a decentralized social app, today has roughly 35 million users.

X, meanwhile, now has north of 600 million monthly active users, according to statements made by its CEO, Linda Yaccarino, on Wednesday.

While Threads is still small in comparison to Meta’s other social apps — Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp — its growth is helping to cement its place in the microblogging app ecosystem. In total, Meta says that more than 3.4 billion people now use at least one of Meta’s apps daily.

On Wednesday’s call, Zuckerberg told investors that the growth indicates Threads “continues to be on track to become our next major social app.”

This is a sign that they are growing. I like how Threads and Bluesky are doing well with regards to taking some market share against Twitter. I hope they don't give up.

This growth rate is significant. A big congratulations to Thread for achieving such a milestone. I believe it's as a result of people leaving X. There are possibilities that more people will still leave in the future.

I've finally redownloaded the app on my phone.

I need to just give it a whirl. I'm pretty tired of X. It's getting worse and worse as I use it. I'm hoping that I can find an audience on Threads. Last time I checked, I have around 1,000 followers to that isn't too bad!

I haven't used Threads since I created an account, used it a few times and never went back. This is amazing and is pushing me to want to check it out again. I haven't been too happy with X at all since Musk took over, and BlueSky I need to build up, and I know they need to grow more, which is happening, but slowly.

I think a lot of people move X slowly migrated over and caused the uptrend of new users. Especially since their numbers have now declined and threads is trending upwards. Bluesky is also growing at the sametime.

In all honesty, I've enjoyed Threads more so than X lately. Less BS posts, more stuff related to my niche.

Now one of my niches is in blogging. I don't see me leaving X because that audience is still there. But I might hammer down more on sites like Quora to see if they do better.
