Do you read privacy policies on websites?

I used to love creating them. Now I use AI to do it and then I scan it to make sure it's legit. The reason I no longer enjoy creating them is because they don't matter anymore.

Sure, they matter enough that your website needs it to make money and have some protections from liability ,but the part that makes me not care is the fact that no one cares about their privacy anymore.

Don't believe me? Look at social media.

We have real names of people sharing the utmost irresponsible things. They share their big expensive toys. They share their friends from the neighborhoods they live in, so it's easier to find out where they live. They share when they're going on trips so you know when their house is empty. They share pictures of their house, which can help you determine where they live.

Open-source intelligence used badly - happens all the time.

The CIA and all them don't have to create a database to spy on us, we do that for them, freely.

How do you feel about this? Do we even care about our privacy anymore?

I don't read privacy policies, in the end the all say the same thing, they will access your data and use your data, they own your content, they will track you, blah, blah.. If you care about privacy, do not share a lot of information and do not join a lot of sites

I do when it matters. I'll blindly accept them, but if I feel something is wrong, I will look into the policy.

Some may say that, but others add that they can share your data with 3rd parties. You might have already just assumed that everyone does at this point, but some companies go to lengths to protect your information despite being in their policy and expand on how they share the data and when, like only if law enforcement gets involved, for example.

I value my privacy and haven't shared a single photo of myself for over 15 years. It's not like it hasn't been collected and entered into a database by now with all the IDs and cameras mounted around the city by now, though.

That's something to be proud of, actually :)

I can't say the same. Being a local "influencer" gets me on the news and in newspapers all the time, LOL. Plus, I do it myself. I just make sure I watch what I say online as it can be help against you, forever.

I would like to write down something relevant that I read today.

Privacy paradox - People know that privacy is important and that they also know that our privacy is invaded by big tech companies and government agencies, but most of them do not do anything to control how their data is accessed, modified, leaked or tampered with.

Thinking about it, we all are guilty of privacy paradox.

Yeah, the Wet Bandits from Home Alone would have it so easy now.

Anyway, on a serious note, this isn't safe for kids, for one thing, because people can stalk them and thieves can plan robberies (as noted), rapists can rape women etc..

For the most part. But in every room of my house, I at least have some sort of weapon I can get to. Of course, the one that has hollow point 45s in it can pretty much get to any room, too, or multiple rooms :P
Yeah, but it's still not wise to post everything on social media and most people aren't into guns as much as you are, if at all.

Honestly, I really don't care any more myself, all of our data is out there, sold more times than I can count I'm sure. It's a sad fact :(
This is true. It's not possible to prevent this from happening. If someone is still using all those apps they use to track and get the data they want to, it's not possible preventing the data from being leaked.

Yes! I totally agreed that maintaining privacy policy can be so overwhelming. However, I opined that we need to be mindful of what we share online instead of opting out entirely. I can't possibly stop surfing the web because of that.

You are absolutely right because it is very surprising how people are ever willing to trade their personal data for free services. I know this because I have seen a lot happening on several platforms. To curtain this, the public needs sensitization about data ownership and online rights.
No one or only a few people reads the privacy policy on any website or app they are using. I know that I don't read them, I never cared about it because what can I do? I need to make use of those apps or websites. Google spy on us, VPN tap your data and so on. We can never be free 100%.

I understand your point but I still maintain a stand that are ways we can take to protect our online privacy such as using vpns, ad blockers and being selective of all the type of sight or apps we use. If we put all of these into consideration, it can make a big difference but you cannot still be 100% free.

To a reasonable extent, I do care about my privacy online. That's why I don't give out some sensitive information to sites that I don't think would be able to protect my privacy. I know a lot of people don't care about privacy anymore online but some people do.

I still care about my privacy online and ensure that I do everything to be on the side of safety and doing everything right. I don't want to fall prey to some issues where my sensitive information would be used against me in the future.
