discuss The concept of dowry

There are still two different school of thoughts when it comes to the concept of dowry. Those who are for and those who are against. Then again, there are cultures that differ in taking dowry in that in some cultures, it is the groom that needs to pay while in others, it is the brides side of the people who pay the dowry. In any case, I am not in the favor of any form of dowry. What is the dowry practice in your culture or country?

In my own culture, it is the man that pays the dowry to the family of the woman. I don't see it as a bad thing. It fosters a sense of responsibility for the people that are involved in the marriage. It only becomes bad when it exploits the person that is meant to pay the dowry.

I am cool with the concept of dowry. It gives a man an upper pedestal in marriage with him being the natural leader. I don't think I would be comfortable marrying from a culture that I don't have to pay a token before I am approved to marry the lady.

Dowry is very important in my culture. It’s a sign of respect and it shows that you are responsible and committed to the marriage or relationship.

I cannot say about other cultures, but in Hindu culture, dowry is sanctioned by the scriptures and the dowry is entirely the woman's property and the husband has no rights to it.

Dowry often reflects social status but has led to financial burdens and exploitation, sparking legal bans and efforts to end the practice in many cultures.

Dowry came as a compensation for women to stop them from claiming fair share in parental property.
