Following on from Tesla has lost half its value since December, what on earth is happening in the US?

I thought that Agent Orange was supposed to be some superior businessman. The Art of the Deal? He's overseeing the demise of the US economy right now. How long will he hold on to his support base?

Tariffs, inflation, recession? He's good, he's really good. What does this kind of result do to his reputation?

A recession was going to happen with or without Trump at the helm.

I just want it to be over as quickly as possible. If tariffs can help, then so be it. Otherwise, it's going to have to be the painful route of raising the interest rates by 50 basis points each Fed meeting until we can definitively say it's under control.

He will be the weak one at the mid-terms, for sure.
Midterms don't affect him unless the House can pick on Dem seats. Highly unlikely, though.

Do tariffs help? That's not me being argumentative, it's a genuine question. My understanding has always been that tariffs generally increase the likelihood and severity of a recession rather than reduce it. While they can provide short-term protection for certain domestic industries, the broader economic effects tend to be negative. Happy to be educated as to why I am wrong.

Even the conservative hero Ronald Reagan was against them.

Where's the proof? You're saying all these tariffs and cutting out European allies isn't wrecking the economy?

I don't think Trump can did himself out of all the damage he's doing to different people. And he's talking tough to Canada now? He will be the weak one at the mid-terms, for sure.
There's no doubt that Trump's policies have been so damaging to the American people but we are actually expecting something positive because the stock market is really on downswing right now.

You are correct about that because it is a global thing but Trump's policies have made it worse. For instance, the issue of tariffs have deepen the economic instability and that has raise the interest rate which is the root cause of the present downturn.
A stock market crash can trigger recession. But we are not sure when it will start. The fundamentals of the US economy are not impaired though. The US has strong institutions that will always make things work no matter who becomes the president.
Yes we all understand that the US economy is very strong but that doesn't mean it is immune from decline if there is a poor policy on the part of the government just like what we are experiencing right now. It is very clear that Trump's policies have increased the economic uncertainty.

Recessions happen. That's just a consequence of having an economy! Yet it can't seem to shake the idea that Trump's policies are pushing the US into a recession faster. There is a school of thought that this is intentional, but I don't want to put words into the mouths of the bootlickers so I'll let them figure that out for themselves. :ROFLMAO:
