discuss Should Governments Regulate Morality?

This thread covers all aspects of ideologies, including beliefs, principles, traditions, policies, and their influence on society and culture.
Regulation will help legalise your liberty and ensure that there is order and everyone can enjoy that liberty equally and in a well nuanced manner.

Governments have always enforced morality. The real test is how far and how fast the governments can go in adapting to moral standards? For example, homosexuality was a crime in Victorian UK, but now they are openly embracing it.

On one side, governments have a duty to protect its citizens from harm. But I think govenment need to be careful in moral issues like abortion or same-sex marriage. These issues are very personal and complex and so they require an in-depth analysis and consideration.
Well, a problem is that liberals see same-sex marriage, the same as they do trans issues. The 1st thing doesn't really bother anyone unless children are involved. The 2nd causes all sorts of issues with many people.

Do you think any society is truly secular? Look at the western democracies, they are embracing one religion and one culture.
There are countries that define themselves as secular. It is the present government of the country that tilts it towards one religion. To a large extent, I would say that United States is practically a secular country. Just that Trump is leaning more towards Christianity. The Democrats truly projected a secular America.

In theory, and also by their constitution, some countries are secular. Is secularism enshrined in the US constitution? DO they actually practice secularism. Why do you think Vivek Ramaswamy, a Hindu, left the presidential race and supported Trump who are trying to appease hardliner Christians?

If morality affects social issues, I believe the government has a right to wade in and establish some order. Take for instance, polygamy. It is an issue that is more moral and ethical in nature. That's why the legal system in my country is not bothered about it. But it is a legally regulated issue in the United States and I believe it is so because it was crossing social issues that affected lots of people. Government can come in to issues if morality when it affects wellbeing of citizens.
