Sean O’Malley have called out Ilia Topuria on 3 different occasions. The first time was on August 2023 after winning the UFC bantamweight. The second was on February 20, 2024 after Topuria's knockout victory over Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298. The third was on March 9, 2024 after defending his bantamweight title against Marlon Vera at UFC 299. O'Malley made a formal callout during his post-fight octagon interview where he said, "Dana, get me a jet to Spain. I want Ilia Topuria.

After watching how Ilia Topuria knocked out Charles Oliveira in UFC 317 main event, Sean O’Malley said in a video with his friends watching the fight "Thank God he didn’t accept my callout."
