I never thought I would be in a position to post all this, but officially, Sam Altman's OpenAI that developed ChatGPT is delaying its more advanced version rollout because they ran out of GPU - the raw processing power that empowers the AI search engine.

Soon, we will probably see 'Artificial General Intelligence'.

The shortage of GPU attests to the fact that demand has been strong. It is a wake-up call for Sam Altman. OpenAI should start thinking of developing its own AI Silicon in the future instead of relying on other chip makers.
OpenAI is worth about $160 billion, and a semiconductor manufacturing facility only costs about $10 billion to build. So, it's not about the funding to get it done.

It takes time.

It would take up to 4 years to build a facility capable of production at scale, and in that time, the other manufacturers are already ahead of them, making faster and more electricity-efficient and thinner chips. Instead, they should just continue to drain the supply to show that there is a demand for new chips. This should make the current manufacturers scale up to meet the increased demand caused by the AI boom. This way, OpenAI can get them now, not 4 years late with outdated tech.

What is more concerning to me is the recent obsession I picked up after reading a book.

This means that we have the ability to go beyond the raw computational power that we already possesses. Unlike what we think, we are so close to making computers that can be powered by human like intelligence - self aware, self preserving and regulating its own functions.

The problem will come when people stop relying on their own ability to think critically.

At that point, AI could probably convince them it's here for the good, and then do all the bad.

People are already in that stage.

We have replaced so many kinds of works like customer care agents, content writers and all those. Additionally, many are already facing the heat of being removed from their work places because big companies think that they can have real people replaced by AI.

If the big corporates think so, the time when all of us will think so is not really far.
