I like travelling too and I have travelled both nationally and internationally. I plan my trips so that I cover at-least 5 states at a time within a country. Its fun to wake up each day to a new place, new excitement, new adventure and a bit of a thrill of the unfamiliarity. Regarding safety, well, I would say you would find some sort of challenges everywhere you go, regardless of the country, but I would say that as a female, I felt quite unsafe in Egypt, during every trip I made there.
