other Map reading

I have come across many of my friends who love reading the map despite having the Google Maps feature for navigation. They look into the map and give us direction and suggest alternate directions rather than actually taking the help of audio-video-aid. Even otherwise, they take up random places and gaze at the map and know more about the location.

However, when viewed through my eyes, I think its boring and not worth the time. What are your opinions?

Google maps sometimes does not work. Recently, there was a car accident near our boarder, the driver said he was following Google map and it showed flyover but there was none. I have also been fooled by Google map a few times, I would trust printed map.

Map reading is a very valuable skill but it's a pity that I don't know a thing about it. I might hop on YouTube to gain some knowledge on it. I only know that it's about navigation and geography. That's all I know about it.

I find map reading and following it on the ground quite exciting and adventurous. Obviously I am no expert in map reading however, I do have basic knowledge and have used it in distant past. With the introduction of Google Maps, I have switched to using the more easily accessible and handy Google. However, it has misled me a lot of times.
