I haven't dated someone in a long distance relationship in years, but daily communication helped us keep the relationship strong. We did a lot of video calls, texting and more. We also made an effort to see each other quite often.
Honestly, I think long distance relationships are hard to maintain. You can't be close when you're so far apart and that's the scariest part.
There is a slim chance that long distance relationship can stand the test of time. Relationships tend to thrive more when presence is felt. Distant relationship might work for some people but the truth is the experience might not be the same as those who are close by and are their visibility is felt
